The Impact of Flowers on Mental Health

The Impact of Flowers on Mental Health

The theme of this year's Mental Health Awareness Week is compassion and its possibilities. So many of us feel alone during this protracted period of isolation, yet small acts of kindness may help us feel connected and remind us that we are valued. It is now more crucial than ever to raise awareness about how we can look after our mental health and assist others around us. Long after the virus's physical symptoms have subsided, our ability to cope with and recover from the pandemic will depend on it.

We have witnessed acts of generosity blossoming all throughout the nation, from the nation's support for the NHS to Captain Tom's fundraising efforts to the socially isolated street parties that brought neighbours together for VE Day. It seems quite great to know that something as simple as flowers might carry some of the solutions to improving our mental health. Here at The Flower Lounge, I've seen messages of hope, love, solidarity, and kindness go out with the bouquets we are sending.

Being in nature has long been recognised to improve our mood and reduce stress, and several studies have linked flowers and plants to psychological well-being. This is how they can assist us:

They impact your mood…for days
They improve your productivity and creativity
They create stronger and more intimate connections
They can help heal
They make the recipient happy
They make the sender happy

What to choose?
Where do you begin, if you're with me and motivated by FLOWER POWER? The greatest option is always picking flowers that are in season and that are fresh; whether it's a big bouquet, like our florist's choice, or a sweet posy jar, the colours and scent are at their finest. Flowers and plants may always be combined with other "pick me up" items, like our Self Care Hamper, which includes an air-purifying aloe vera plant, some marc de champagne truffles, locally produced bath salts by Francesca Giomarelli, and a scented candle by The Naked Candle Co.
