Why is parenting education important?
Imagine driving your car zig-zag on the road when traffic police stop you to ask for your driving license. Either you show or don’t. Can you imagine a cop asking you for a parenting education certificate, when he finds your grown-up child misbehaving on the streets? What will be your reply? “No, never, what is the need?” may be your answer to the cop.
When we know that parenting a child is the most challenging responsibility under the sky, why do we not give importance to parenting education? In today’s context, tech drives everything you ask for but in the world of working parents, nuclear families, single parenting and co-parenting, parents miss the sincere and experienced advice of their wise parents (grandparents). Wherever emotions are attached, hand-holding is always welcome. This hand-holding is nothing but parenting education.
A formative study conducted by UNICEF highlights that children must have healthy relationships with their parents if they are to develop to their fullest potential. Relationships should provide them stability, consistency, affection and responsiveness. They must also get protection from harm and support for the growth of new skills and capabilities. Parental relationships also buffer children against social and behavioral problems.
Primary habits in a child form by the age of ten. Isn’t it better that parents become well-versed in “parenting” and only then plan a baby?
