Horrible Attack on Mosque, 15 Killed Including Taliban Religious Leader.

A suicide attack has taken place at a mosque in the western province of Herat, Afghanistan. At least 15 people including a famous religious leader of the country's ruling Taliban have been killed. Al-Jazeera gave this news citing Herat police.

According to the news, the attack took place on Friday (September 2) at the Gujargah mosque in Herat city during Friday prayers. Herat Police spokesperson Mahmud Rasuli said that Taliban religious leader Mujib Rahman Ansari and some civilians were killed at this time.

Al-Jazeera, citing multiple sources, said at least 15 people were killed in the blast, although Rasooli could not immediately confirm the number of casualties. Besides, at least 21 others were injured. A doctor said that they have been admitted to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Afghan authorities strongly condemned the attack. Along with that, the criminals behind the attack have expressed their conviction to be severely punished. In a tweet, Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that the strong and courageous religious leader of the country has been brutally killed. The miscreants behind this attack will be severely punished.

The Taliban government celebrated the first anniversary of taking power on Wednesday (August 31). Two days later, a suicide attack was carried out. However, no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Ansari, a pro-Taliban religious leader, is well known for his speeches. At a gathering of religious leaders in the capital Kabul in July this year, he said, "If anyone does the slightest thing against our Islamic government, he will be beheaded."

There have been several suicide attacks in the past year since the Taliban came to power. Earlier, 20 people were killed in a bomb attack on a mosque in the capital Kabul on August 17. Among those killed were the Taliban religious leader and the imam of the mosque, Mullah Amir Mohammad Kabuli.
